The Lake County Website updates have been completed.

Check back around Memorial Day to see the Refreshed website for Lake County.
Thank you for your patience as we transition to the new look.

Lake County is located in the Arrowhead Region of Northeastern Minnesota, covering 2062 square miles with a population of 10,866 people. Within our boundaries are 4 state parks, a National Forest and the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW). All offer superior hiking, camping, fishing and winter recreational opportunities. Snowmobiling, hiking, cross-country skiing and ATV trails are readily accessible throughout the county. Bordering our county is the largest freshwater lake in the world, Lake Superior. With its rugged beauty and pristine shoreline, it offers many recreational opportunities as well as historical shipwrecks, two operating lighthouses and two public marinas.

Lake County is rich in cultural heritage with many historical sites and museums to experience. Special events occur during every season, from the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon in January to Grandma's Marathon in June, along with local community festivals. The largest city is Two Harbors, where the county seat is located. Here and in the City of Silver Bay, two operating harbors for shipping iron ore and taconite are located. Major industries in Lake County are mining, logging, wood products, shipping and transportation, manufacturing, health care and tourism. Come and grow with us!

Lake County is now offering a new service in our Auditor’s Office.  The newly elected Auditor has researched and acquired a program and system for taking credit card payments.  Payments can still be made with your personal check at either the Auditor’s counter in the Courthouse or by mail OR you can now pay online or at the Auditor’s counter using one of the new credit card payment methods.  Please see their pages on this website for details and a link to use, in order to pay for your taxes on line.

You may pay in one of three ways and the charges vary:

1. Credit card payments will incur a 2.35% convenience fee on the amount charged (with a minimum fee of $1.95)
2. Debit card payments carry a flat fee of $3.95
3. Electronic Check, which draws on your checking account, has a flat fee of $1.50
